Crescent Lake[]
Crescent Lake is the backdrop for most of the story. Counted among its inhabitants are: Malaya Walters, Vincent Walters and their parents, Elliot and Maria Walters; Marin Grundy, Marisa Salcedo and Elias Ross share a home on the outskirts of town; and Connie Greensmith and her wolves used to live in a run-down house in the woods not far from the Walters' house.
This picturesque college town is located in southern Michigan, surrounded by woods, and it contains Crescent Lake University, a mall, and other typical small town places. At the very least, it has a quaint, well-run, roomy coffee shop that's popular with the college crowd. The town is based off of a minier version of Ann Arbor, Michigan.[1]
The lake which the town is named after is finally seen on Chapter 10 Page 616. The Yardley Pack is camping around the lake.
Crescent Lake University[]
Crescent Lake University is a pillar of the Crescent Lake community, and the source of much of the town's revenue. The bulk of the coffee shop's customers are college students.
Maria Walters is a professor of Biology here, and Vincent Walters and his friend Joy attend classes here.
The Crescent Lake University Library is located on the campus grounds.
Vincent has a teacher named Professor Coletti who gives him an assignment to study Kirtland's warbler[2] that becomes the basis (read excuse) for Vincent and Elias's first date[3].
Crescent Lake University Library[]
Crescent Lake University Library is located on the campus of Crescent Lake University, and is open to the public as well as serving the needs of the university students. It provides traditional research materials as well as current media and free wi-fi connections.
The library is where Vincent first has a chance to talk to Elias and become better acquainted. It's also where Vincent and Joy meet in their study group.
Crescent Lake University Baseball Field[]
Crescent Lake University Baseball Field appears in Chapter 8 where Vincent is practices with Eli.
Vincent also plays for their baseball team, the Ospreys. [4] Elias also got into CLU and is going for tryouts for the team in fall.
Red Moon[]
Red Moon coffee shop & cafe has been managed and operated by Elliot Walters – and lately, his family – for over twenty years. He dreamed of running the shop since high school and worked around the clock for years to keep the store afloat. The shop has proved to be popular with the college crowd.
When Charlene Masters first came to Michigan from New Orleans, she took a job at Red Moon as a barista serving customers and helping with the cafe. She also does some of the baking, making scones and muffins.
Elias Ross recently took a job at working at the Red Moon. After he was expelled from Ross Pack for his part in taking Vincent back from Connie and her wolves, he needed to work to pay for living expenses. Malaya offered the job in gratitude for his help.
Malaya has worked at the coffee shop for longer than she can remember, and once she became a werewolf, it became one of two places she feels normal, the other being home. For her twentieth birthday, Malaya was made part owner of the coffee shop and cafe.
One of the other part time workers at the cafe is named Leslie.
The official layout of the street the cafe is on: the building to the left of Red Moon is a bookshop that goes to the street corner, which is long but not that deep .[5]
The aprons were originally green, but changed to red in Chapter 8 to better fit the name of the cafe.[6] A box labeled as "OLD APRONS" can be seen in the closet, possibly in reference to the previous green ones.[7]
The Mall[]
Malaya, Vincent, Elias, Marin, and Marisa take a trip to the mall during Chapter 7. The mall has a variety of clothing stores where the gang goes shopping for. There are also at least three pretzel stores within the mall itself. A list of known stores: Soap'n Stuff, Pretzel Kingdom, The Jeans Store, Frisky Business, and many other clothing stores. Part of the mall is under renovation and has many stores closed.
The mall is based off of the Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan.[8] The address is 555 Mall Drive, Michigan.[9]
Creepy house[]
The creepy house in the woods is where Flora Conradine, along with Ziva Ross, finally settled down after Flora gave birth to Aubrey while hiding from Tom's wrath[10]. When the other children were taken and turned by Ziva, they were brought here to be raised to serve Flora, now named Connie Greensmith, as living energy sources[11], and ended up being the only home they could remember[12].
The house is not far from Malaya's home, only a couple miles, as was discovered when Marisa, along with Malaya and Elias, used a tracking spell to find the source of the magic that was hiding werewolves in Crescent Lake[13].
The house was heavily warded making it nearly impossible for mere humans to find[14] and very difficult for witches and werewolves. The basement of this house is where Vincent and Elias were held after Vince was kidnapped and Eli was caught trying to save him. The basement is based off of a Michigan-style basement, where the floor is mostly earth.[15]
To the side of the house, there is a cluttered shed full of tools and junk.
Crescent Lake Residences[]
The Walter's House[]
The Walter's House is located in the woods, away from town. Vincent has his own garden near the front of the house.
After being freed from Connie, Harvey, Marcus, and Tim live in the woods behind the Walter's house.
Marin and Marisa's House[]
Marin and Marisa's house is located on the outskirts of Crescent Lake. Their house first appears in Chapter 3 when Malaya turns into a werewolf and breaks in trying to find Eli. Elias is currently living here in a guest room. Ginger is later taken in, as well as Aubrey later on, with the two of them sharing a guest room.
The characters tend to use the dining room as a place of study, as seen with Marisa researching in Chapter 4 and the gang brainstorming ideas in Chapter 10.
Charlene's Apartment[]
Charlene's apartment is located on the second floor of her building. Alphonsus also lives here. Her living room is decorated with pink fairy lights. Charlene moved into the apartment a few months prior to the beginning of the comic.
The apartment is first mentioned in Chapter 8 where Malaya offers to help move Charlene's couch to the her apartment with the help of Eli. The apartment isn't actually shown until Chapter 11.
Sara's House[]
Sara's residence where she and Pumpkin live. Sara's room is on the second floor. She lives in Lansing, Michigan and lives about an hour away from Crescent Lake.
Ross Landscaping Warehouse[]
Elias and Vincent make a visit to Sara's Warehouse in Chapter 10 to pick up some tools to help fight off against Connie's vines. She has a variety of landscaping tools such a brush grubber, chainsaws, weed whackers, etc. The warehouse is about an hour drive away from Crescent Lake.
Detroit[]
Detroit has been mentioned a few times in the comic, but most notably is the territory of the Vargas Pack and the Haynes Pack, with the latter based on the west side. Eileen and Terry are also based in the Detroit Coven as well.
Sara also has to go to a landscaping conference in Detroit during Chapter 8.[16]
Upper Peninsula (U.P.)[]
A yearly summer witch camp that Marisa attends is held near Lake Superior.[17] It is dubbed as "2015 Witch Camp" on an info sheet Marisa [18] and something along the lines of "40th Annual Michigan Witch Festival," during a music performance. [19]. The magic in the area is really good due to the tree rituals performed there where witch's express their thanks to the earth and return magic.
The U.P. is also the Vardinogiannis Pack's territory.
Faith University[]
Faith University is a conservative college and the first college Marin attended and was majoring in religion. After being outed to her parents by her school counselor, she dropped out and transferred to a state school where she got a full ride, where she would get her bachelor's degree with highest honors. It is not stated where exactly Faith University is located.
New Orleans[]
New Orleans is a historic town located on the Gulf of Mexico in the southern state of Louisiana, home to Marde Gras and Fat Tuesday and where plastic bead necklaces sell dearly. It is the town where Charlene grew up and where her parents still live: her father a jazz musician, and her mother a teacher[20]. Charlene left New Orleans, claiming she wanted to find out if winter was as bad as they said. In reality, she was following a premonition where Malaya was pretty hairy[21].
When Charlene was little, her coven would perform rituals, but after hurricane katrina, old witches started to move away and new ones moving in, drastically changing the culture of New Orleans' witch scene. Along with the new witches brought in friends who liked fake voodoo marketed to tourism and people who didn't understand the actual rituals and couldn't do magic. Eventually witches started to become outnumbered, and the original rituals meant to connect with the earth were replaced with entertainment so no one felt left out.[22]
Ohio[]
Ohio is notably where the Yardley Pack moved to after Connie Greensmith started setting up wards and driving werewolves away from Crescent Lake. Abigail and Casey Carmichael are originally from Ohio, and Ella Yardley was born here as well. Ella's mom stayed back with her pack in Ohio while Thomas returned to Crescent Lake to attempt to retake his claim.References[]
